CLEANING
1.
Clean brushes (47) using soft, dry cloth.
2.
Clean slip rings on rotor assembly (9).
3.
Place rotor assembly (9) in a lathe, with slip rings (50) of shaft free.
4.
While rotor is spinning in lathe, hold sandpaper or 400 grit silicon carbide paper against slip ring (50) surface.

WARNING
Particles blown by compressed air are hazard-
ous. DO NOT exceed 15 psi (103 kPa) nozzle
48
pressure when drying parts with compressed air.
Use a maximum of 30 psi (207 kPa) when
cleaning components. DO NOT direct com-
pressed air against human skin. Failure to fol-
low this warming may cause injury or death.
Make sure air stream is directed away from user
50
and other personnel in the area. To prevent
409-1861
13
injury, user must wear protective goggles or
face shield.
5.
After polishing slip rings (50), clean using low pressure (15 psi (103 kPa) maximum) compressed air.
INSPECTION
1.
Inspect roller bearings (13 and 45) for rough rotation or visible damage. Replace if damaged.
2.
Inspect brushes (47) for excessive wear. Replace as needed.
3.
Inspect brush springs (48) for distortion or discoloration. Replace as needed.
TESTING
1.
To test diode trio (27), connect multimeter between
51
diode trio single connector (51) and each of the other
connectors (52 thru 54) in turn. Observe resistance
reading.
52
2.
Reverse multimeter leads, or reverse meter polarity,
and repeat step 1, above.
27
3.
At one polarity, resistance reading should be low and
53
at the other polarity, resistance reading should be very
high, if diodes are good. If both readings on same set
409-1862
54
of connectors are either high or low, the associated
diode is faulty and entire diode trio must be replaced.
