TM 10-3930-671-24 B. Using Another Lift Truck As A Hoist   Be sure that hoist lift truck has enough capacity to lift the counterweight or injury to personnel could result. NOTE It is recommended that this procedure be conducted by a crew   of   two.   One   crew   member    should    attend    the counterweight while the other operates the hoist truck. 1. Move the lift truck into a convenient position with adequate clearance for maneuvering of the hoist truck. Be  sure  the  parking  brake  is  applied  and  blocks  put  at the    front    and    rear    of    drive    wheels    or    damage    to equipment could result. 2. Install lifting chains, sling, or spreader bar on the forks of the hoist truck. Be sure to wrap a safety chain  around  the  forks  and  fork  bar  to  prevent hoist chain from slipping off the tip of forks. 3. Attach the lifting chain hooks to the lifting eyes in counterweight. Raise the forks of the hoist truck as necessary to remove (take up) slack in lifting chains. Be sure that forks of hoist truck are adjusted to remove all  slack  in  the  lifting  chains  and  pick  up  (support)  the weight of the counterweight before bolts are removed. 4. Loosen    and    remove    counterweight    mounting bolts.      Refer    to    Counterweight    Mounting    for locations. Be sure to stand away from path of the counterweight as it is being lifted and moved. Watch the lifting chains and hooks for any unusual twisting or movement. Do not walk or  stand  under   the   forks   or   injury   to   personnel   could result. 5. Carefully lift counterweight from the truck. F-491
