TM 10-3930-671-10 Before Operation How To Perform the Daily Inspection Before operating the lift truck you should check its condition.  Be sure that the truck is safe to operate. Lift trucks should always be inspected daily, or at the start of each shift.  The following pages point out important areas to check during the daily inspection. WEAR EYE GLASSES, SAFETY SHOES, AND CORRECT FITTING CLOTHING WHEN WORKING ON LIFT TRUCKS.  INJURY CAN RESULT IF YOU DO NOT WEAR PROTECTION. First,  perform  a  visual  inspection  of  the   truck   and   its components.  Walk around the lift truck and take note of obvious    damage    which    may    have    been    caused    by operation during the last shift.  Check for leaks and loose fittings. Then, check all of the critical components that handle or carry the load. Inspect  the   upright   assembly,   rails,   rollers,   lift   chains, and lift cylinders.  Look for any loose parts or fittings. The lift and carriage chains must have equal tension.  Check the lift chain anchor fasteners. E-64
