TM 10-3930-669-34 1-17.  STEERING SYSTEM. The  steer  axle  (1)  is  mounted  at  the  rear  of  the  forklift  and  is  hydraulically  assisted  any  time  the  engine  is  running. Hydraulic oil pressure is provided by a transmission-mounted pump which is shared by the mast, pivot/shift assembly, and steering system (refer to Para 1-16).  No mechanical linkages are used between the steering column (2) and the steer axle (1) for control of the steer axle (1).  A valve (3) is connected to the steering column (2)  and  controls  fluid  flow  from  the pump to the steer axle (1). 1-19
