TM 10-3930-669-34 Section III.  PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION 1-13.  POWER TRAIN. The  forklift  is  powered  by  an  air-cooled  diesel  engine  (1)  coupled  directly  to  a  semi-automatic  transmission  (2).    Power from the transmission is transferred to the drive axle (3) through a short drive shaft (4) with two universal joints. a. Engine.  The forklift is equipped with a KHD Deutz diesel Model F4L912D/W engine rated at 60 HP (44 kilowatt) at 2,500 RPM.  This engine is air cooled. b. Transmission.  The forklift is equipped with a Borg Warner Model PR-2 two-speed, semi-automatic transmission. Forward  low  range,  forward  high  range,  reverse,  and  neutral  functions  are  controlled  by  an  electric  solenoid-controlled valve body.  Power is transmitted by constant-mesh helical gears and multiple-disc clutch packs. (1) The  transmission  control  lever  located  on  the  steering  column  operates  two  switches  sending  voltage  to  the electric solenoids controlling transmission functions. (a) To select the forward position for the transmission, move the control lever to the forward position. (b) To select the reverse position for the transmission, move the control lever to the rearward position. 1-6
