WARNING
Drycleaning solvent (P-D-680) is TOXIC and flammable. Wear protective goggles and gloves and
use only in well-ventilated area; avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothes; and do not breathe
vapors. Keep away from heat or flame. Never smoke when using solvent; the flashpoint for type I
drycleaning solvent is 100°F (38°C) and for type II is 138°F (50°C). Failure to do so may result in
injury or death to personnel.
If personnel become dizzy while using cleaning solvent, immediately get fresh air and medical help.
If solvent contacts skin or clothes, flush with cold water. If solvent contacts eyes, immediately flush
eyes with water and get immediate medical attention.
a.
Cleanliness. Dirt, grease, oil, and debris can cover and hide serious problems. Use drycleaning solvent on all
metal surfaces.
b.
Screws and Nuts. Check screws and nuts for obvious looseness and missing, bent, or broken condition. Look
for chipped paint, bare metal, or rust around screw heads. If any part seems loose, notify unit maintenance.
c.
Welds. Look for loose or chipped paint, rust, or gaps where parts are welded together. If bad welds are found,
notify supervisor.
d.
Electric Wires and Connectors. Look for cracked or broken insulation, bare wires, and loose or broken
connectors. Tighten loose connectors and make sure that wires are in good shape. If bad wires or connectors are found,
notify supervisor.
e.
Hydraulic Lines and Fittings. Look for wear, damage, and leaks and make sure clamps and fittings are tight.
Wet area indicates leaks (see Para 2-7). If leaks or loose fittings and connectors are found, notify supervisor.
f.
Damage is defined as: any condition that affects safety or renders the forklift unusable for mission
requirements.
g.
Rust and Corrosion. Check forklift body and frame for rust and corrosion. If any bare metal or corrosion exists,
clean bare or corroded area, apply a thin coat of oil, and notify supervisor.
2-5. WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS.
Always observe the warnings and cautions in your PMCS table. Warnings and cautions appear before applicable
procedures. You must observe these warnings and cautions to prevent serious injury to yourself and others and to
prevent equipment from being damaged.
