Using   a   1/2”   open disconnect    battery cable   (51)   on   left refer   to   paragraph end wrench, negative   ground side   of   vehicle, 5-47. Test   alternator   (47)   on   left   side   of engine. On   alternator   (47)   connect on   multimeter   to   positive and   black   lead   to   ignition Connect   battery   negative cable   (51)   on   left   side   of refer   to   paragraph   5-47. Connect  carbon  pile  across ( 5 2 ). NOTE red  lead terminal terminal. ground v e h i c l e, b a t t e r i es All   accessories   should   be   on   for steps   57   and   58   to   increase load on   batteries. Start   engine   in   operator’s   compart- ment, Allow   engine   speed   to   reach 1500   rpm. On   alternator   (47)   on   left   side   of engine, observe multimeter. Satisfactory   range   is   between   25   and 50  amperes. Replace   if   test   results   are   not   in satisfactory    range. Stop   engine   in   operator’s   compart- ment. Disconnect   battery   negative   ground cable   (51)   on   left   side   of   vehicle, refer   to   paragraph   5-47. Go  to  sheet  9 5-84
