Before proceeding with electri-
cal test, refer to Chapter 2 for
i n i t i a l s e t u p i n s t r u c t i o n s.
The alternator output lead, wire
assembly, must not be
removed
while
t h e a l t e r n a t o r i s
operating. Do not ground wire
assembly. Failure
t o f o l l ow
t h e s e p r o c e d u r e s m a y c a u se
damage to equipment.
Test alternator (47) on left side of
engine.
Connect battery negative, refer to
paragraph 5-47.
Connect tachometer.
NOTE
All accessories should be turned
o f f f o r s t e ps

and
48
to
minimize load on batteries.
Start engine in operators compart-
ment. Allow engine speed to reach
1500 rpm.
On alternator (47) on left side of
engine,
connect
r e d l e a d o n
multimeter to positive terminal and
black lead to ground.
Observe multimeter.
Maximum reading
is 17 volts.
Replace if test is above maximum.
Stop

compartment.
