Front and Rear Axle Shafts and Bearings (cont). 1 STEP LOCATION ITEM ACTION REMARKS REMOVAL (cont) ( c o n t) NOTE Left   and   right   axle   shafts   are   different   lengths;   mark   axle   shafts before   removing. c.   Axle   shaft Remove If   necessary,   use   hammer ( 4) to   loosen d.   Gasket   (5) Remove  and discard e.  Outer  wheel Bend  tab  of bearing   nut lock   (7) (6) back  then remove   nut f.   Lock   (7) Remove g.   Inner   wheel Remove bearing nut   (8) h.   Thrust Remove washer   (9) i.   Outer   wheel Remove bearing   (10) j.  Hub  and  drum Remove assembly (11) NOTE If   hub   and   drum   assembly   (11)   is   exceedingly   hard   to   remove,   back off   brake   shoe   adjustment   (para   2-43a). k.   Oil   seal   (15)   Remove   and discard 2-254 Change 3
