Check preload
Use inch-pound torque wrench at nut (8)
carrier (27)
to check bearing preload. Correct bear-
ing preload is 5 to 15 pounds inch. If
torque is not within these limits, remove
pinion cage (17) and add shims (18) to
decrease preload or remove shims to in-
crease preload
Tighten to 160-190 pounds foot torque
Check that bearing cups can be pushed in
bores by hand; if necessary, rework bores
using emery cloth until hand push fit is
obtained. After hand push fit is obtained,
remove cap screws (l) and bearing cap (3)
