3-8. CRANKSHAFT REPLACEMENT/REPAIR (CONT)

Determine connecting rod upper and
lower bearings (9 and 10) clearance.
Use new bearings.
(a)
Turn crankshaft (16) until two
connecting rod bearing journals are
bottom center.
(b)
Be sure crankshaft journals, bearing
area on connecting rods, inner
surface of connecting rod caps, and
connecting rod bearings are dry and
clean.
(c)
Put upper bearing half (9) on
connecting rod (11) and pull piston
and connecting rod assembly
against crankshaft journal. Bearing
tabs must be in the tab grooves of
the connecting rod.
