TM 10-3930-671-24 Counterweight Installation Be sure to stand away from path of the counterweight as it  is  being  lifted  or  moved.  Watch  the  lifting  chains  and hooks for any unusual twisting or movement. Do not walk or stand under forks or injury to personnel could result. NOTE Procedures   for   installing   counterweight   with   forklift   or with    hoist    or    overhead    crane    are    similar.    Refer    to appropriate removal procedure for  instructions  in  proper chain hookup. 1. Apply  the  parking  brake  and  put  blocks  at  the front and rear of the drive wheels. 2. Attach  the  lifting  chain  hooks  to  the  lifting  eyes. Be  sure  lifting  hooks  are  correctly  attached  and latches  are  undamaged  and  operating  correctly. Raise  hoist  or  hoist-truck  forks  to  remove  (take up) slack in the lifting chains. Heavy components can fall and cause severe injury. Keep your feet and body clear at all times. 3. Carefully operate overhead hoist or hoist-truck to lift and move counterweight. Keep counterweight close to floor while moving. Move hoist slowly to avoid swinging of counterweight. 4. Carefully  raise  counterweight  into  position  and align the  mounting  holes.  Be  sure  the  hooks  on frame engage the mating recesses in counterweight.  Lower the hoist to leave a small amount of slack in the chain.
