Inspect  the  fork  latches.  Be  sure  they  are  not damaged or broken and that they operate freely and  lock  correctly.  Check  the  fork  stop  pins  (or optional bolt and washer) for secure condition. Wheels & Tires Personnel working on wheels and tires must be qualified and  trained  to  do  wheel  and  tire  maintenance  or  injury may result. Have  missing  bolts  replaced  and  loose  bolts  correctly tightened  to  the  specified  torque  before   operating   the truck. 1. Check    the    condition    of    the    drive    and    steer wheels  and  tires.  Remove  objects  embedded  in the  tread.    Inspect  tires  for  excessive  wear  and breaks   or   “chunking   out,"   and   bond   failure between the tire and rim. 2.    Check all wheel lug nuts or bolts to be sure none are loose or missing. Refer  to  Section  11.1,  Tire  and  Wheel  Maintenance,  for additional information. Engine & Accessories Engine Compartment Access To avoid the possibility of personal injury, never work in engine  compartment  with  engine  running  except  when absolutely     necessary     to     check     or     adjust     timing, carburetor,   or   governor.   Take   extreme   care   to   keep hands,  tools,  loose  clothing,  etc.,  away  from  fan  and drive belts. Also remove watches, bracelets, and rings. 1.    Unlatch  and  open  each  side  door  for  access  to the engine compartment. 2.    From left side, unlatch and lift the seat deck. The seat  deck  latches  are  underneath  at  the  rear. Rotate the latch to unlock. F-44
