TM 10-3930-664-24 4. If main bearing caps (7) are not numbered, mark with correct number using a grease pencil. 5. Remove   main   bearing   caps   (7)   from   cylinder block by removing screws (8). 6. Carefully   remove   crankshaft   (5)   from   cylinder block and place on a clean work surface. 7. Remove  gear  (9)  and  locating  pin  (10)  only  if replacement  is required.  Use  puller  to remove gear. B.  CLEANING 1. Clean crankshaft journals using a nylon brush. 2. Clean   crankshaft   and   related   components   in accordance with paragraph 1-24. C.  INSPECTION 1. Conduct general inspection of crankshaft components in accordance with paragraph 1-24. 2. Inspect  crankshaft  journals  for  deep scratches or indications of overheating. 3. Inspect main bearings  for signs  of overheating, deep    scratches,    or    other    obvious    damage. Replace as required in accordance with paragraph 4-10. 4-15
