TURN CRANKSHAFT TO ALIGN TIMING MARKS ON CAMSHAFT GEAR WITH TIMING MARKS ON CRANKSHAFT GEAR. NOTE When measuring camshaft gear backlash, hold the camshaft gear and the crankshaft gear to avoid getting a false backlash reading. a.   Measure camshaft gear backlash using a dial indicator as shown. b.   Record measured backlash for reference. 3-111
