TM10-3930-660-10 (2) To   retract   the   hoist   cylinders,   hydraulic   oil   must   bypass   the   hoist   cylinder   counterbalance valves  by  flowing  through  the  flow  control  valves.  The  flow  control  valves  are  located  on  the top  side  of  the  base  of  the  hoist  cylinders. (3) (4) (5) Do  not  loosen  the  1  inch  hex  nut  or  remove  the  stem  on  the  flow  control valve  when  the  cylinder  is  pressurized  due  to  a  raised  boom  or  load.  High hydraulic  pressure  exists  which,  if  released,  the  boom  could  drop  and cause   severe   personal   injury. (a)   Loosen   the   3/4   inch   hex   nut   locknut   on   the   flow   control   valve   stem   (located   on   the   top side  of  each  hoist  cylinder  base  end). (b)   Unscrew   the   stem   with   a   3/16   inch   allen   wrench   to   the   internal   stop. Actuate   the   emergency   steering   pump   by   turning   the   emergency   steer   switch and  the  starter-run  control  switch  to  the  ON  position. Move  the  hydraulic  joystick  forward  to  lower  the  boom  until  the  load  or  forks  are  about  24 inches   above   ground   level. Return  the  system  to  normal  operation  as  follows: (a)  Return  the  hydraulic  joystick  to  the  neutral  (center)  position. (b)   Turn   the   starter-run   control   switch   and   the   emergency   steer   switch   to   the   OFF   position. (c)   Screw   both   flow   control   stems   in   until   they   are   seated   and   tighten   locknuts. (d)   Install   the   transmission   cover. 2-57
