TM  10-3930-643-34 APPENDIX E TORQUE  LIMITS E-1. General  Information. This appendix provides general torque limits for fasteners. Special torque values are indicated in the maintenance procedures for  applicable  components. The general torque values given in this appendix shall  be  used  when  specific  torque  values  are  not  indicated  in  the  maintenance procedures. When applying torque in tightening direction, check torque when the fastener just begins to turn. Conformance is best determined by checking immediately  after  assembly. E-2. Torque  Limits. a. Table E-1. Torque  Limits  for  Standard  Fasteners. This  table  provides tightening  torque  for  general  purpose  applications  using  Grade  8,  coarse  thread bolts and nuts,   through  hardened  flat  washers (Rockwell “C” 38-45), all phosphate coated, and assembled without supplemental lubrication. The torques shown also apply to the following: 1. Phosphate coated bolts used in tapped holes in steel or gray iron. 2. Phosphate  coated  bolts  used  with  phoshate  coated  prevailing  torque nuts  (nuts  with  distorted  threads  or  plastic  inserts). 3.
