TROUBLE
PROBABLE CAUSE
REMEDY
b. Coolant leakage.
1.
Worn or damaged hoses.
Replace hoses.
2.
Loose fittings.
Tighten or replace as necessary.
c. High stall speed.
1.
Low oil level.
Add oil to proper level.
2.
Low converter pressure.
Check converter pressure and, if
low, check main regulating valve,
and
cooler bypass valve to see if they
are in "stuck open" position.
3. Slipping clutch.
(A) Actuate other clutches to
verify slipping of particular clutch
being checked.
(B) Observe main pressure at clutch
lines to determine if within limits.
(C) Overhaul transmission.
4. Foaming oil.
(A) Too low or too high oil level.
(B) Water in oil.
(C) Air leak on intake side of pump.
(D) Improper oil.
d. Continuously high oil
1. Low or high oil level.
Add or drain oil.
temperature.
2. Foamed oil.
Check for proper oil and whether or
not air leak exists on intake side
of pump.
3. Engine cooling system inoperative.
(A) Check radiator coolant level.
(B) Eliminate restricted water or
oil flow through cooler.
4. Improper vehicle operation.
Operate away from stall more
frequently.
5. Low oil flow through converter.
Converter pressure regulator valve
stuck in near closed position.
e. Slow or erratic clutch
1. Improper shift linkage arrange-

ment or adjustment.
2. Low main pressure.
Main pressure regulator valve
stuck. Clean, check springs, free
up in valve bore.
3. Internal oil leaks.
(A) Check other clutches.
(B) Check shaft seal rings.
(C) Overhaul transmission.
f. Low clutch pressures and

Worn main pump.
Inspect pump and repair if worn.
slow engagement at idle.
2.
Low oil level.
Add oil.
3.
Leak on intake side of main pump.
Check intake line.
g. Loss of power.
1.
Cold oil.
Warm and rech eck.
2.
Parking brake on.
Release parking brake.
3.
Low converter pressure.
Same as "low clutch pressure"
above.
